The Ohr Chadash Religious School is a new joint venture of Hillcrest Jewish Center and Israel Center of Conservative Judaism.  Begun in September 2008, the school is proud to announce that in May 2009, it has been recognized as a “Framework for Excellence School” by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Ohr Chadash is one of a select group of after school religious schools in the State of New York to receive this status. This prestigious certification marks the fact that Ohr Chadash Religious School has met rigorous standards in all academic areas that include professional development, curriculum development, and family education. Further, it has demonstrated that it has met all of the goals, aims, and benchmarks necessary to be considered a school of exceptional academic quality.

We are particularly proud of our dynamic and skilled Education Director, Judy Stein, who is committed to providing exciting, kid-friendly, high-quality, joyful education for the Ohr Chadash students. An accomplished educator, Judy teaches at the Solomon Schechter School of Queens and has put her mark on the school by enabling it to receive the Framework of Excellence designation of USCJ. She has recruited a capable and dedicated staff of teachers and the school also has the benefit of the talented clergy of each partner synagogue. Our school plays an important role in Jewish education, transmitting Jewish traditions, and building Jewish identity in our youth.

We hope that if you are considering an after school Jewish education program that you will consider contacting the Ohr Chadash Religious School. For further information, you may email our Education Director at jbst28@aol.com or call the ICCJ office at 718-591-5353.

Ohr Chadash music class with Morah Osnat

We at Ohr Chadash Religious School are  very lucky to have Osnat Kalantarov as our music teacher!   Each Sunday morning, the students meet for 20 minute sessions with Morah Osnat.   She sings and teaches the boys and girls a variety of Hebrew and  English  Jewish  and holiday songs that are age appropriate.   Morah Osnat has over 25 years of extensive professional experience as a musician, instructor, and concert accompanist.  She is multi-lingual and speaks and sings in Hebrew, Russian and English.  She presently is also the music teacher at the Solomon Schechter School of Queens.   The students look forward to her class, and have developed a  rich and varied repertoire of traditional and modern Jewish songs.
